First VR surgery class at the University of Pavia

The first-ever VR vascular surgery class in Italy was held on December 15 2017 at the University of Pavia. Fourth-year Harvey Med School students were able to see a real carotid stenting surgery, directed by Professor Enrico Maria Marone. Students were given a VR headset and just connected to YouTube to see the surgery. [Notice: video content may not be appropriate for susceptible people]

This was a huge step forward in the field of teaching activity – especially in a med school – as students had the chance to see a real surgery underway, learn how a highly specialized equipe work, first hand, 360 degrees, as they actually were in the room.
