On February 27th, 2019, industry representatives of Assolombarda joined the CompMech Group in a workshop on the last developments in the additive manufacturing field. The workshop, entitled “Manifattura Additiva e Materiali Innovativi: il progetto 3D@UniPV”, have been followed by a visit of the new metal 3D printing laboratory (3DMetal) and of the rapid prototyping laboratory (Protolab).
During the visit, the industrial representatives have been in touch with the new metal 3D printer (Renishaw AM400) and with the FDM printers; furthermore they were able to see several components produced for various industrial applications.

The 3DMetal@UniPV Laboratory will be inaugurated at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture (DICAr) of the University of Pavia on December 6th, 2018 at 12:00 pm.
The 3DMetal is a new DICAr Additive Manufacturing Laboratory, equipped with a metal 3D printer with powder bed laser melting system (Renishaw’s AM400, Renishaw®).
The 3DMetal@UniPV aims to print metal components with an innovative design and to carry out research activities on devices optimization and additive manufacturing process simulation.
The laboratory is born from the synergy between two manufacturing companies, Fluid-o-Tech and La Marzocco, and the group of Computational Mechanics and Advanced Materials (DICAr).
The team: Dr. Gianluca Alaimo, Dr. Stefania Marconi, Dr. Simone Morgantiand Eng. Alberto Cattenone.

During the second annual assembly of the National Academy of Sciences, held on November 6, prof. Ferdinando Auricchio from the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Pavia held the lecture entitled “3D printing: an enabling and fascinating technology. From the science of materials to modeling, from surgery to civil engineering”.
Prof. Auricchio was nominated National Member (in “supernumerary”) in 2018.
The National Academy of Sciences was founded in 1782 on the initiative of Antonio M. Lorgna, mathematician and hydraulic engineer, together with the forty most eminent italian scientists, including Lazzaro Spallanzani, Alessandro Volta, Lodovico de Lagrange, Ruggero Giuseppe Boscovich: hence the current name of “Società dei Quaranta” (today “Academy of the XL”).

On October 29th, 2018, 3D4MED was inaugurated at Fondazione I.R.C.C.S. Policlinico San Matteo of Pavia.
3D4MED is the first 3D printing clinical laboratory in Italy; it is equipped with different 3D printing technologies able to create patient-specific anatomical models for surgical planning, training and simulation, and to develop patient-specific instrumentation and innovative prototypes.
The laboratory was born from the collaboration between the group of Computational Mechanics and Advanced Materials, coordinated by Prof. Ferdinando Auricchio, Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Pavia, and the Unit of General Surgery II of the Policlinico San Matteo, directed by Prof. Andrea Pietrabissa.
3D4MED team is formed by: Eng. Stefania Marconi, who directs and supervises all the laboratory activities, Eng. Valeria Mauri and Eng. Erika Negrello.

Prof. Ferdinando Auricchio has been elected National Member of the Accademia Nazionale delle Scienze, the only national scientific Academy continuously in function since its establishment. It was founded in 1782 on the initiative of the mathematician and hydraulic engineer Antonio M. Lorgna. The founding Members were, besides Lorgna, the forty most distinguished scientists of all over Italy, including Lazzaro Spallanzani, Alessandro Volta, Lodovico de Lagrange, Ruggero Giuseppe Boscovich: hence the current name Society of the XL, Società dei Quaranta.
The “Industry 4.0, Technology and the Law” Winter School 2018 will take place from Monday 5th to Friday 9th of February 2018 at Collegio Ghislieri. It is organized by the Department of Law, the Interdepartmental Research Center at the European Center of Law, Science and New Technologies (ECLT)and the Collegio Ghislieri of Pavia, in collaboration with the Center for Health Technologies (CHT) at the University of Pavia.
